A cappella Experience

So Brooks is part of a choir here in Sydney and asked me to join for a month because they were going to go to a workshop with Deke Sharon....the godfather of contemporary a cappella.  You know the groups Pentatonix, Straight No Chaser, etc.   Yup those are all groups he's help put together albums.  He also produces the show, "The Sing-Off".   I agreed to do this.

Yesterday was our day for the workshop.  We got up in front of people and performed 2 songs to be critiqued by him.  Our first song was a "Freedom/Faith Mashup" by George Michaels.  Didn't quite go as well as we wanted.  The next song we sang is an Aboriginal lullaby called Ngarra Burra Ferra.  We did so much better and he offered suggestions of how to add in percussion sounds.

We listened to other groups perform as well.  In the afternoon we had about 25 minutes to make some changes to the song and then there was a concert.   Aram and Greg came to the concert and ended up being our videographers.

On top of our song, we also as an entire group of people sang Lordes "Royals" as an arrangement produced by Deke.  It was pretty cool to see this all come together.

Below are the videos from our performances.

I was definitely outside my comfort zone with doing this, but ended up having a lot of fun.

Cheers,

Ann
